A few years back, Greg over at Greggles Tabletop/Feed your Nerd pulled this community event together called DreadTober. It was basically paint a Dreadnought model during October challenge but for me it was the first time participating in anything like that. I thought it was a ton of fun. The sense of community was great.
Next year the event was hosted by Joe over at Broken Paint Brush, I dived in converting a Contemptor Dreadnought but unfortunately I lost steam and never finished the model. I should pick it up again. It’s a quite cool conversion actually. I can’t even remember if I even attempt anything last year. I sure didn’t finish anything. Slowly the memory of the first years magic faded.
But a few days ago I stumbled on the DreadTober 2018 blog (dudes, you should migrate over to WordPress to make it easier for me to follow the blog) and decided to give it a go. I pledged to paint Old One Eye.
Here’s my first WIP of the legendary Alpha bug. After some serious rebuilding I got him up and running. It was a lot of work getting him to this stage, I had to pull all of his arms, head and top carapace piece. Pull the bits off other models, dig deep into the bitzbox and even green stuff a bit here and there. You can’t tell any of this by looking at the model so I’m pleased. I just primed and given him a quick base coat of Zandri Dust. I’ll painting him in my Hive Fleet Baba Yaga scheme (the Warriors behind are one step ahead in the process).
Keep it burning!
Its been a long time since Ive seeen someone doing something with tyranids. Exited to see end result.

I painted a few during the summer. But if you want to see Nids you’ll be spoiled. I got a ton in store.

I know that feeling. It’s all there if you wanna go back and check it out. Mostly in June I think.

Aye, that first Dreadtober run by Greggles was excellent, I’ve got many fond memories of that. It’s lost steam a lot over the last few years really, I didn’t even know it was still something that people did these days. Now you’ve reminded me about it though I might actually take a stab myself, I’ve been planning to work on a Deff Dread for Orktober so this would kill two birds with one stone.
Anyway, like what you’re doing with Old One Eye, I’ve always been a big fan of the Carnifex.

I was surprised myself when I saw that DreadTober was still up and running. With quite a few participants too! Since I was already working on the model I thought, why not?
The Carnifex model is a classic, Jes Goodwin I believe designed the kit. It has stood the test of time and is one of my favourite models in the Tyranid range and the whole game. It has this instantaneously recognisable brute force. When you face it, you know that pain is coming.
