The Mons Falco Escalation – the list

At the end of March the Mons Falco Escalation took place. A five way mini Campaign that saw Eldar, Tau, Chaos Space Marines, Ultramarines and Astra Militarum fight over the strategically important forge world of Mons Falco. I did some horrible mistakes, forgot some crucial rules and was at times truly outplayed. Four games in a day and a half. It was a blast.

I played my Chaos Space Marines warband the Lords of Ascension and brought the following 1850 list:

Chaos Lord – Bike, Mark of Nurgle, Gift of Mutation, Lightning Claw, Power Fist, Sigil of Corruption, Veterans of the Long War

Both fast and scary. Gets the job done or dies horribly to concentrated fire. Mostly the last. Dominates the field while alive. Daemonheart might be needed.

Sorcerer – Bike, Gift of Mutation, Mastery Level 3, Force Stave, Sigil of Corruption, Burning Brand of Skalanthrax, Spell Familiar

Roll on Telepathy for Shrouded or Invisibility. The torrent AP3 flamer is great especially later in the game to clear objectives or kill off linebreakers.

Chaos Space Marines (7) – Mark of Nurgle, Plasma Gun, Gift of Mutation, Power Axe, Melta Bombs

I pretty much always kit my aspiring champions, mostly because it looks and feels cool. They are pretty hard to kill and quite good at holding the backline.

Chaos Rhino – Dirge Casters, Havoc Launcher

Dirge Casters are great and the enemy knows it. The Rhinos draw fire and keep the assault elements alive a little longer.

Chaos Cultists (10)

They are crap but still points effective. Awesome filler unit.

Chaos Bikers (6) – Mark of Nurgle, Meltagun * 2, Gift of Mutation, Lightning Claws, Melta Bombs, Veterans of the Long War

The backbone of the army. Might go for a fist instead of the claw in the future.

Chaos Bikers (5) – Mark of Slaanesh, Meltagun * 2, Gift of Mutation, Lightning Claw, Melta Bombs

Not that great really. But they are yet another fast threat. If I keep them I’ll probably drop them down to just three with two meltaguns.

Maulerfiend – Lasher tendrils

The maulerfiend is pretty much my favourite unit. But one just dies to easily. I’ll bring another next time. My warp smiths just need to build a new one.

Havocs (5) – Missile Launcher * 3, Heavy Bolter

Odd combination that didn’t work at all. But that’s what I had. The Missile launchers are solid enough.

Chaos Rhino – Dirge Casters

Another Dirge Caster. Probably the main reason I took the Havocs.

Obliterator Cult (2) – Mark of Nurgle

They would get the job done if they stop rolling ones to wound all the time.

Mayhem Pack

Deep striking, random robots. They are both hit and miss, reserve roll manipulation is needed. But they got me warlord every game.

Helbrute – Power Fist * 2, Combi-bolter, Heavy Flamer

The heavy flamer is awesome on the deep strike. He killed Calgar in close combat! Narrative forged.

Helbrute – Multi Melta, Power Fist

Probably the most cost effective one. Decent.

Helbrute – Reaper Autocannon, Thunder Hammer

Looking good and doing ok. Killed Pask.
